Email Service Providers Which One is Best

To do any internet marketing, you should at the very least have some way of getting people to sign up to your list of subscribers.  Also, you need to have a way to send out messages to them whether that be educational, sales, or just personal.  This can all be done automatically.  Whether at the gym, on the beach, fast asleep, or even at your day job, its hands-off running by itself.  Introducing autoresponders aka email service providers!!

What is an Email Service Provider?

Ok so let’s start at the very beginning.  You see sign up forms everywhere, sign up to my newsletter, sign up for further information, etc, etc.  Now when you submit your details, you join their list and become a subscriber.

The owner of the list will normally have programmed a sequence of follow-up emails.  These are sent out in a particular order.  So, for example, immediately after signing up a new subscriber receives a  welcome message, a confirmation email, if you like.

A week later you might receive an email with a discount offer.  3 weeks later maybe an email with encouragement to follow on their social media.

You may have signed up for an email newsletter.  This may be programmed to send out a newsletter daily or weekly.

You may have created a support ticket, and received a confirmation.  Or you may have purchased an item on a website, or even changed a setting on an account.

Another example is, have you ever emailed a colleague who is away from their office.  You then received an “out of office message?” these are all examples of autoresponders.

Autoresponders are important because subscribers can receive key messages without the worry of sending messages out manually.  All you have to do is set up a simple sequence of emails to be sent automatically on a schedule of your choosing.

This saves you time, it builds relationships.  It helps you understand the analytics who is opening what, when, etc.  The autoresponder company also provides training & education to help you learn how to use their tools and run your business more efficiently.

You can generate a lot of income using autoresponders if they are used wisely.

Is That It or Are Autoresponders Capable of More?

But wait, they do so much more than just send out emails on a timely basis.  In recent years they have become increasingly sophisticated to enhance productivity.  You can easily switch a subscriber from one email cycle to another.  This can be done simply if they click on a particular link in an email.  You can switch them if they buy a product and move them to an upsell cycle.  What about a year after they purchase a widget encouraging them to renew a policy or a warranty.  You can send individual targeted emails based on the page they signed up for.  How about send birthday greetings and maybe other related offers to that special day.  All of these features have been developed to generate significant income and maximize the value of your mailing list.

What Are The Most Popular Email Service Providers?

There are several very well known email marketing application providers.  Two that I use are Getresponse who provide a 30-day free trial so you can test drive their product.  Secondly is AWeber who currently has a free plan available.  Unfortunately that plan I limited to a 500 subscriber list.  If you are just starting out it’s an ideal way to get a taste of what an autoresponder is capable of.  Other good autoresponders include Mailchimp and CampaignMonitor albeit slightly more expensive.

A word of warning.  I increasingly come across autoresponder services that are either free or pay once for life with no recurring charges.  Both of these are a bad idea.  Why?  Firstly if you are going to put your list or grow your list on a platform that is not under continuous development, you will soon be left behind by both technology and the industry.  Who is going to continually develop a platform without the necessary funds to enable this? 

Free trials are ok.  But when someone offers you to have your list hosted on their platform for free for life.  You look at them carefully, and decide on what’s the catch?  Listen your list is your business’s best asset.  You do not want your email platform provider to suddenly disappear with your best asset, do you?  It happens, but don’t let it happen to you.  All of the autoresponder providers mentioned above have been around a long time.  They are well respected and are not going to go away at any time soon.

Basic Features Of An Autoresponder.

Although many autoresponders are feature-rich many share the same basic features:

Firstly is the ability to import a list you maybe already have.  You go onto grow that list and then host that subscriber list on that particular platform.

They provide a selection of themes to use for your e-newsletters.  You don’t have to reinvent the wheel every time you want to send a new newsletter out.  Just take the theme and modify it to suit your brand.

Of course, each provides basic autoresponder functionality.  You can send those all-important emails out depending on their purpose, whether educational, sales, or whatever the reason.

The email designs are responsive.  So whatever equipment they are viewed on they are readable and just as important pleasing to look at.

How To Measure Your Performance.

Analytics are provided as standard by email service providers.  They help you assess how well a particular campaign is doing and include metrics for:

Open Rate.  This is one of the most important metrics email marketers use.  It shows the number of email recipients as a percentage who have opened your email after receipt.

Click-Through Rate.  This is a measure of the number of recipients who clicked on at least one link contained in the email.

Unsubscribe Rate.  A measure of how many people opt out of your mailing list no longer want to hear from you.

Other Features.

Also, an important part of email marketing is the ability to do list segmentation.  This enables you to send targeted emails appropriate to what the subscriber signed up for.  It helps to achieve the goal of the email for example to drive sales or boost engagement.  In this way, you can use an autoresponder to build a funnel that converts.

Some autoresponder providers even include website building tools, for that all-in-one solution approach.

Yet other email service providers offer more advanced features such as automation builders.  Here you map out the customer journey and how they will be marketed to.  The ability to create whole conversion funnels to maximize the sales to any particular prospect.  Also may be included, the ability to host webinars through their integrated experience.

The more advanced plans allow whole a management function for larger teams accessing the same platform.  Or maybe you have e-commerce requirements and this is another feature supplied by some providers.

Split Testing and Perfect Timing.

Some email service providers supply more advanced features to be able to perform split testing.  To do this you send variants of your email to a part of your list.  You change only one small variable at a time.  For example, the emails have a different subject header, but both contain the same content.  You monitor the open rate or even click-through rate of each.  When you have a clear winner then you send the best variant to the remainder of the list.

Some autoresponders provide an advanced feature they call perfect timing.  Here they analyze when the most likely time a recipient will open their email.  They then wait until that time to deliver it to that recipient.

More and more providers are also now including the ability to create stunning landing pages.  Remember, it is those landing pages that capture the subscriber into a list to send out the emails to.  You can use split testing on the squeeze pages built to get maximum conversions.

So What Are My Top Tips For Using Autoresponders

1.  Don’t overdo it.  You can send a message directly into somebody’s inbox.  Do not abuse this power, you may soon p**s them off causing them to unsubscribe.  Even worse they complain about your emails being spam.  So keep the intervals between emails reasonably long, not one immediately after the other.

2. Keep things relevant.  If someone signs up for more information about dog training, don’t send them emails about classic car restoration.  They will not open your emails, unsubscribe, or worse.  Keep the emails relevant.  Get them engaging with you to keep opening up and reading them.

3. Don’t drip the emails sending them whenever you feel like it here and there.  Use marketing automation workflows.  Send the emails either time-based or action-based.  Time-based is when you send an email on sign up, another a day later next a day later, and so forth.  They are based on time intervals. Action-based triggers are emails sent when a particular action occurs.  For example, when an email is opened, a link is clicked, or a web page is visited.  Maybe a purchase made, a birthday, a cross-sell after a purchase.  Other examples include, to alert a user to an impending membership renewal or expirations, to reconnect with a customer who has been inactive for a set time.  Also, to re-engage a customer who may have abandoned a cart, or to maybe remind someone that they haven’t finished a profile, survey, or other activity.

4.  Create sophisticated user journeys to maximize the profits of your project, or organization.

5.  Be mindful of data protection rules, such as GDPR, and ensure explicit consent before adding a subscriber to autoresponder cycles.  Allow the user to be able to unsubscribe easily.  Don’t fall into the trap of overlooking data protection and privacy.

Email Service Providers In Summary.

Remember that ultimately email service providers or Autoresponders should reduce your workload.  At the same time leaving customers feeling like you’ve connected with them on a personal level.

Autoresponders send out emails in response to prompts that are often action-based.  They are user-initiated, they can help you get the right emails delivered at the right time.  This is critical if you want to drive conversions and maximize profits.

Through the careful application of autoresponders, you can set up strong and engaging email campaigns.  All this with less effort on your part.
